Comedian Jimmy Tarbuck reveals prostrate cancer diagnosis - but says he plans to 'beat it'

Comedian Jimmy Tarbuck has revealed he has been diagnosed with prostrate cancer.

The 80-year-old confirmed the news after recent tests during an appearance on Good Morning Britain today.

He spoke to presenters Kate Garraway and Adil Ray about his diagnosis for the first time on live TV, revealing he had a biopsy before being informed by doctors.

Despite his recent diagnosis, he says he is "feeling great" and plans to beat it.

He said: "I have prostate cancer and I’m going to try and beat it.

"All men watching, and wives, get your husbands to go for the test.

"After 50, just have a test, let them have a look at you and you’ll be relieved and be with your family for a few extra years.

"Right now, I feel great. I’m on the telly, I’m having a good time."

The comedy legend admitted he was inspired by his friend Rod Stewart to get tested, following his own experiences with symptoms of the disease.

Now having treatment, Jimmy mentioned his "mentor", singer Sir Tom Jones, who has been supportive and offered advice about what he may face.

"Tom Jones has been my my mentor," he said. "He told me what was gonna happen, all the tests."

What is prostate cancer?

The comedian, who will soon be going on tour, said the cancer hasn't spread.

He continued: "I’m just having these injections and taking tablets and then I start a yearly cycle and just see."

He finished the interview by urging men who may be watching to get tested.

He added: "Boys, go. It is embarrassing. Especially when the fella said to me we’re going to give you the thumbs up and I said, 'God I hope not'."
