Comedian Jason Byrne reveals how he is adjusting to single life after divorcing wife of 14 years

Irish comedian has spoken out about how he is adjusting to single life after divorcing from his wife of 14 years.

Jason, 47, separated from his wife Brenda last summer and says he is now coming to terms with the reality of living on his own.

The Ireland's Got Talent judge told Build Series London: "I haven't been on my own for 20 years so it's bizarre.

"Just putting a wash on for one is quite weird. Everything seems to be tragic. It's just one slice of toast.

"I didn't realise this: The butcher doesn't just sell meat, he sells meals, ready made meals.

"I was always rubbish at cooking. I used to always ask my poor old ex-wife 'Whats for dinner?' and I'd do the washing up cos I was fair.

"Now I go to the butcher and I say 'What’s for dinner?' and he has it ready.

"I still burn a lot of the dishes. As a man who hasn't cooked before, I put everything on full blast. I've burnt chicken stir fry.

"Television programmes are a big thing. I thought I liked Top Gear but I don't.

"I'd put it on but I didn't know my wife would be coming in saying 'Switch that off and put on Coronation Street'.

"I actually like soaps without even knowing. I've been watching soaps for 20 years and I thought I didn't like them but I do like them and I don't like man programmes.

"I like Say Yes To The Dress and I didn't even know. I don't even like football and I follow Man United."

The Dublin funnyman has told how he is focused on the funny aspects of a marriage breakup for his Edinburgh Fringe show - Wrecked But Ready.

Speaking to the Irish Sun, he said: "I'm 47 now and I had quite a year. It's been up and down. For 20 years I was married to my wife and then we split.

"But don't worry it's not a miserable show about that. A lot of comedians when someone dies they do a show about the person that died and it's not really funny.

Louis Walsh reveals new Irish talent show on TV3

"This is just me talking about trying to cope on my own after 20 years.

"I've used most of my family life on stage and now (my ex-wife) is going 'Oh why did I do this?' My wife has been in the audience in the past.

"I use lots of props and she sees most of her kitchen on stage. I've brought her good pots and woks and she's going 'Hey, that's mine'."
