Comedian Jason Byrne mocks Ryanair’s priority boarding in viral video

Irish comedian Jason Byrne has gone viral with a hilarious rant about the way in which Ryanair ask people to queue ahead of flights at European airports.

The 50-year-old videoed a long queue at his gate before departure. He stated that Ryanair had issued a boarding call for the flight, despite the fact there was no plane visible on the tarmac outside.

He called on passengers who find themselves in the same scenario not to queue up, but rather sit down and enjoy a coffee. He pointed his camera at the long line of passengers who were queuing to board in spite of the empty tarmac below.

He told his followers: “When Ryanair try to panic you on the screens about boarding, there’s normally no plane and you’re going to be standing there for probably the next hour. So sit down, get yourself a coffee and chill out.”

However, the sage advice ended with a quip from the comedian, aimed at those who had booked priority tickets. He added: “It’s great fun to watch all these poor f**kers trying to stand here for hours on end.”

The video has since received 130,000 views on Twitter, and while many people agreed with Jason’s comments on Ryanair, some people pointed out that booking priority was not just for queuing but also necessary for people wishing to bring a small suitcase on board with them.

One Twitter user wrote: “ To all intents and purposes, priority boarding with Ryanair relates more to permission to carry on a standard size piece of hand luggage than boarding matters. Without it, you may only carry on a handbag-sized backpack.”

He eventually recorded himself exiting the gate as a non-priority customer and joining the queue of people who had paid for fast-track boarding, yet were still not on the plane. The video concluded with him urging people to stop buying priority tickets, even going on to describe Ryanair as “geniuses” for their priority policy.

Ryanair has previously come under fire on social media after a flight that was travelling to Portugal landed in Spain. The incident occurred as a result of Air Traffic strikes, but customers slammed the handling of the incident as “shambolic” on Twitter.
