Comedian David Walliams has denied being a man involved in an attempted dog theft after an e-fit with an uncanny resemblance to the celebrity was released.
On Thursday, South Wales Police released three e-fit images of three men involved in an attempted dog theft at knifepoint in Cardiff last month.
One of the images shows a striking resemblance to the children's writer and comedian, but David Walliams has quickly stepped in to deny any involvement.
The comedian made light of the resemblance, and said on Twitter: "Is that me on the far left? I think I would remember stealing a dog’. David"
Police released the e-fit images on Thursday in an attempt to catch the three men who tried to steal an 8-year-old labrador in Cardiff in February.
A 30-year-old man was walking his eight-year-old Labrador on February 25 on the wooded trail that runs between Eastern Avenue and the Rumney River near Pentwyn when he was approached by the three men.
The men allegedly tried to take the dog and as the owner fought off the suspects a dog poo bag he was carrying split, and the contents burst over one of the men which led them to flee empty-handed.
The dog owner suffered facial injuries and concussion in the attack and is said to be recovering well at home with his two dogs who are both safe and well.
It is believed the suspects walked through Pentwyn and Llanrumney before and after the attempted robbery.
