Comedian Billy Connolly may never be able to perform again due to Parkison's disease

Stand up comic Billy Connolly has revealed the sad truth that he may never perform again to to his worsening Parkinson's disease.

The 76-year-old was diagnosed with the condition in 2013, when he said it was making him forget his lines to his shows.

Parkinson's disease mostly affects the motor system and leads to shaking, rigidity, and trouble walking.

In the later stages it can cause dementia and depression.

Father of five Billy spoke to Chris Evans on Virgin Radio, and explained that he has stopped performing and touring.

He told Chris his hearing is deteriorating and he can no longer think "at speed", so his performance would be comprimised.

"I may perform at some other point but I have no plans to" he said.

"And I'm quite happy taking my medicine and getting along with it.

The Glaswegian also told Chris the new symptoms he is experiencing.

"I've started to drool which is a new one on me.

"This disease, it gives you a new thing every now and again that you have to deal with and drooling is my latest.

"I walk unsteadily and my hearing is going and it's bizarre that bits of me are falling off but it's interesting."

While some of Parkinson's symptoms can be treated, it is incurable.

"Steadily more symptoms come and it's incurable", said Billy.

"It's not going to end."

Billy previously said he can no longer sleep in the same bed as wife Pamela Stephenson because Parkinson’s causes him disturbed nights.

"I sleep like a wild animal," he said.

"Laughing and singing or having fights. Pamela has to sleep in another bed."
