Comedian Adrian Edmondson joins EastEnders as Jean Slater's love interest

Adrian Edmondson is set to join EastEnders as a new love interest for Jean Slater.

Adrian will take on the role of Daniel Cook and is set to appear on screen in the summer.

Charming and with a wicked sense of humour, Daniel is the perfect antidote for Jean as she continues her treatment for ovarian cancer.

At first, Jean is unsure about Daniel but as he offers his support in his own unique way, Jean warms to him and the pair strike up a bond.

More recently, Adrian has taken on more diverse roles in numerous dramas including: Holby City, Bancroft and War and Peace.

Commenting on joining EastEnders, Adrian said: “There were only fifteen boys on my drama course at Manchester Uni, and I’ll be the third to appear in EastEnders - so I feel it’s a kind of tradition! The other two being Tom Watt (Lofty Holloway) and Paul Bradley (Nigel Bates)”.

Jon Sen EastEnders Executive Producer said: “Adrian’s a phenomenal talent who will bring his unique blend of intelligence, warmth and humour to the role of Daniel.

"We’re all over the moon he’s coming to Walford and can’t wait for this love story to hit screens later this year.”

Adrian has started filming with his first appearance airing later this summer.
