'Comeback's on' - Kasey Palmer jokes at Benik Afobe return for Bristol City striker on loan from Stoke City as he shows off skills

Kasey Palmer has jokingly hinted on social media that Benik Afobe is close to a comeback from injury.

Afobe joined Bristol City on loan from Stoke City in the summer and immediately struck up a close friendship with Palmer, who had turned his loan move from Chelsea into a permanent one.

The duo were close on and off the pitch, but their fledgling partnership was ended prematurely when Afobe was struck with a knee injury in September.

Whilst the injury was expected to end the 26-year-old's season, there has been optimistic talk of an early return to action.

Afobe has been undergoing rehabilitation back at his parent club, and has also linked up with former Arsenal physio Ray Lewin.

The striker yesterday gave what seemed to be a promising update of sorts on his recovery as he spent some time socialising with Palmer.

Posting an Instagram story with the caption "The comeback's on", Palmer showed Afobe using a small tennis ball to do some football tricks.

It was a nice moment between two good friends, but it also gave Robins fans a chance to see how Afobe is progressing - the striker seemed in good spirits and moved around quickly and freely, suggesting that his rehabilitation is going well.

However, replying to the video on his own story, Afobe joked that the video was in slow motion, revealing he is not up to full pace just yet.

Last month, City assistant Dean Holden said the club were optimistic they would see Afobe in action again this season.

"He's back with Stoke for his rehabilitation," said Holden.

"We would really like to see him back this season in a Bristol City  shirt. Considering the short time he was in the shirt a lot of people have taken to him.

"Prior to this tragedy a lot of of people have taken him to their hearts: the supporters, the players and all the people at the club. He's such a great guy and he has a lovely family and we'd love that to be the case.

"With a long-term injury like that you never quite know how it's going to go.

"I know he's had one previously so he's got the experience of going through that injury and it would be a nice end to the season for him personally if he can get himself back fit and we'd love nothing more."
