An interactive exhibition honoring the beloved author of the children's book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" opened in Futako Tamagawa Rise, a shopping center in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward on Friday.

Play! Park Eric Carle is a facility based around American author-illustrator Eric Carle's world view. Carle died in May this year at the age of 91.

Colorful animals and statues of the famous caterpillar are found all over the roughly 1,200 square meter museum in which children can play with toys, make their way through a maze or leisurely read books.

"It would be wonderful if we could encourage children's curiosity and draw out the power of their imaginations," said the exhibition's producer Daisuke Kusakari.

Ticket reservations must be made in advance. Admission is 2,500 yen per person. (Children under 1 get in free.)
