Come Dine With Me contestant from Cardiff shocks viewers with her cooking techniques

It's the popular (and often car-crash viewing) TV show where enthusiastic cooks get to show off their culinary and hosting skills.

And one woman from Cardiff certainly left an impression on Come Dine With Me viewers with her unique approach to cooking. Appearing in season 43 of the show, Claire hoped to dazzle her fellow diners as the third host of the week.

And viewers were certainly taken (aback) by her techniques.

For a starter, Claire served up prawns that went down well.

Claire was a very endearing person (Channel 4)

Clearly enjoying herself and not taking the show too seriously, Claire christened her main course "Steak Americano".

This clip from the show provides an input into Claire's method:

On social media people seemed to find two particular things perplexing. The first was her love of using her oven gloves — for almost everything.

Halfway through grilling the steaks she whipped them out of the oven to flip over. Whereas a conventional chef may have opted to use tongs, she just used the oven gloves, quipping: "Beats burning my fingers, doesn't it?"

In an attempt to protect her fingers (and presumably her spatula) she also used gloves to turn all the chips cooking in the oven.

This was followed by her getting the chips out of the oven and stir frying them. She then pops the steaks onto chopping boards ("planks") for serving.

It is then that steak connoisseurs everywhere had a collective heart attack.

Claire topped the steaks with bacon and grated cheese (so far so good) but then gave it an extra blast in the microwave.

"When that steak went in the microwave I almost put my fist through the desk," said Steven on Twitter.

Jen added: "There are so many things to make fun of here I don't even know where to start."

Also commenting on the thread, Jess said: "Can't believe animals died for that. Respect their lives, make them delicious."

But she clearly enjoyed herself, so good on you, Claire.
