Feb. 24--Finding a WiFi hotspot might come a little easier for those in the Fox Valley area.
Comcast announced Wednesday the company has installed about 30 WiFi hotspots next to recreational areas in parks and public spaces in Batavia, East Dundee, West Dundee, Elgin, South Elgin, Geneva and St. Charles, according to a release.
The hotspots were installed at Prairie and Lathem parks in Batavia and at the South Elgin Business Association Park in South Elgin, officials said.
Four years ago, Comcast launched the Xfinity WiFi network and since has installed nearly 40,000 hotspots in businesses, homes and outdoor locations in Kane County, the release said. About 400 are in outdoor locations in the Fox Valley and Kane County communities.
"People use the Internet on the go all the time, but wireless data plans can be expensive, and megabytes can add up quickly," said John Crowley, Comcast's regional senior vice president. "Our goal is to provide a seamless WiFi experience for Fox Valley residents, park visitors and businesses."
Xfinity high-speed Internet customers can use WiFi to stream content on laptops and Android and iOS devices on the go.
"The addition of WiFi hot spots will bring visitors to area recreational attractions," said Batavia Mayor Jeffrey Schielke in the release. "The City of Batavia appreciates Comcast's investment in our community infrastructure."
