Combat Stress share top tips for those in EK struggling with mental health

Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health, is sharing its top tips to help those struggling with the often highly stressful festive period.

While it is a time of celebration and cheer, it can be extremely difficult for former servicemen and women with mental health problems.

The highly effective tips are:

Take time out for yourself by meditating or practising mindfulness

Go outdoors for a walk or activity

Do something you enjoy

Relax with a bath, hot chocolate or play music

Remember to take your medication

Help out by volunteering for local projects or charities

Watch a movie

Avoid alcohol and caffeine

Eat the right ‘good’ food

Get support

Dr Naomi Wilson, head of Psychological Therapies at Combat Stress, said: “Some of us may be reminded of people we have lost, and this can trigger difficult memories.

“It is important to make a plan of self-care and use our tips to manage these difficulties.”

Veterans and their loved ones can call for help and support on 0800 138 1619, send a text to 07537 404 719 or email helpline@combatstress.org.uk.
