Coma survivor slams Renfrewshire love-rat who gave her life savings to his secret lover

The ex of a Renfrewshire love-rat has broken her silence after he had an affair with another woman while she lay in a coma.

Lynda Grant, 63, claims William Dunn, 69, squandered her life savings, leaving her penniless and debt-ridden after their three-year romance. The pair first met via dating site, match.com.

It was on that same site that Dunn, from Elderslie, later met Karen Dolan.

Lynda, a former nurse, alleges that, while was in a coma in hospital, Dunn started dating 59-year-old Dolan. She also claims that the retired builder sent over £11,000 of her cash to his new flame.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard that Dunn was granted power of attorney over Lynda. This meant that he had control over her finances while she was cared for in hospital, then in a care home.

Stricken Lynda had been ill due to complications following an operation. Dunn was cleared of embezzling the cash after the trial.

He went on to marry Dolan but they split up before their first anniversary, amid claims that he had been cheating on her.

Lynda has spoken out following the trial and slammed her ex as 'cruel'.

She told the Daily Record: "We were together three years, it’s not like we were together for just a few months. If it had been six months then I would have understood and just thought to myself, ‘You’re a silly bugger for trusting him’.

"But it wasn’t a brief fling. I’m more hurt he would do that to me.

"I don’t really know how I feel about the money being gone. It hurts more that someone could be that cruel and have an affair with someone else.

"What the hell is wrong with him?”

Dunn denied a charge of embezzling £112,971.46 from Lynda’s bank accounts and NHS pension, claiming he had invested it on her behalf while she was ill. He claimed in court the money was given to Karen as a short-term loan for her coach firm Colchri Ltd.

He said the “investment” would help reduce Lynda’s assets below £16,000 so she wouldn’t be liable for care home costs and was to be repaid with interest of 3.5 per cent. But Lynda hasn’t got a penny back.

She said: “He’s made me look a fool. I don’t remember anything about being in the hospital.

"I don’t remember signing the power of attorney. I feel the money is tainted.

"I’ve got a new life now and just want to get on with it. William also claimed my pension which I didn’t know about."

She added: "I feel sorry for Karen Dolan. But if it was me, I’d be saying how sorry I was.

"Even if I couldn’t pay it back, I would still apologise."

The Daily Record contacted Karen for comment.
