Colvend Public Hall is expanding its range of community activities.
The venue’s upcoming winter programme already includes everything from pilates to painting classes.
Now a weekly indoor sports club is being launched to help bring people together in the cold dark nights. It will run from 7pm-9pm.
Colvend and Southwick Community Council has purchased new equipment for it.
Short mat bowls and table tennis will feature initially with the first starting next Tuesday.
C&SCC vice-chairman Simon Pain said: “During the Covid lockdown, we noticed a significant increase in neighbourliness with many residents helping each other out. The community council was very keen to ensure this community spirit did not stop when the pandemic eventually ended.
“So it decided during the spring to carry out a detailed survey of what the community wanted in order to sustain this new-found community spirit.”
The survey identified that residents wanted children’s sports days and a community celebration, which led to the Colvend Family Gala and Sports being held in August.
But it also identified a need for winter activities such as evening talks, regular get-togethers and exercise events.
New equipment was purchased with a grant from the council-run recovery and renewal fund.
