Colvend Family Gala drew the short straw with the weather on Saturday – but was still a splash hit in the rain.
Around 36mm of rainfall was recorded but that didn’t deter around 200 people turning up to enjoy a range of activities.
The only casualty was the children’s sports which had to be postponed because of the slippy underfoot conditions.
The gala benefited from having an indoor venue in Colvend Public Hall and an outdoor venue – the recreation field created by Colvend and Southwick Community Council.
Vice-chairman Simon Pain said the event had gone “really well” despite the deluge and thanked everyone for their support.
“I think we probably got the sympathy vote,” he told the News.

“We had around 200 people there which, given the weather, was pretty good.
“Half the gala was held in the recreation field which the community council built two years ago.
“And across the road in the village hall there was a whole series of displays from the red squirrel group and the community council.”
Mr Pain added: “We thought in the morning that it was going to be a total disaster but the bouncy castle was still going at 5pm.
“The one thing the weather affected was the children’s sports in the afternoon.
“Just from a safety point of view it just got too slippy to continue.
“That was a shame because it’s a major draw. But it was a great effort all round.”
Mr Pain thanked the Stewartry Area Committee and the council’s events fund for their financial backing.
