Colts’ Week 1 woes continue with upset loss vs. Jaguars

The Indianapolis Colts continue to struggle in the opening week of the regular season and following the 27-20 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, they have now lost their last seven Week 1 matchups.

>>>Game recap: Everything we know from Week 1<<<

It was a brutal loss for the Colts, who entered the opener as 7.5-point favorites. From quarterback Philip Rivers tossing two interceptions to the defense being about as strong as a pillow, it was a bad showing from a team that had immense hype entering the season.

Rivers finished the game 36-for-46 for 363 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions and an 88.7 passer rating. Both interceptions were forced on third-down attempts where Rivers either forced the ball into too tight of a window to simply misread the coverage.

The Colts rushing attack was also nearly non-existent—22 carries or 88 yards. Starter Marlon Mack left the game in the first half after suffering an Achilles injury. The Colts fear he may have suffered a torn Achilles and they will know more Monday when Mack goes for an MRI.

The defense was poor in both phases of the game. They allowed Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew to complete 19-of-20 passes for 173 yards, three touchdowns and a 142.3 passer rating. That’s right. Minshew had just one(!) incompletion on the day.

The Colts seemingly got no push from the interior defensive line and rarely got positive stops against the run.

It wasn’t a great showing after an offseason of hype, and the Colts will now look to regroup against the Minnesota Vikings for their home opener at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 2.
