Colts vs. Chargers Player of the Game: Marlon Mack

With Jacoby Brissett making his first start since 2017, the Indianapolis Colts had to get the run game going early in order to take pressure off of the quarterback.

The run game got off to a delayed start, but Marlon Mack came out strong in the second half, picking up large chunks of yards. This helped the Colts rely more on the play-action passing game to move the ball effectively down the field.

It wasn’t until just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter when Mack made his biggest mark on the day with a 63-yard touchdown run down the left sideline breaking multiple tackles and balancing to stay in bounds. This score brought the Colts back into the game making it 24-16 Chargers after the extra point.

Mack’s presence was felt all day out of the backfield, but especially in the second half. He finished the day with 25 carries for 174 yards, and a touchdown. He also punched in the two-point conversion that tied the game at 24 with 38 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

The Colts were not able to get the job done down the stretch in overtime, but there were many highlights in today’s game. Mack’s dominating performance could be just what this team needs going forward as this offense still tries to find their identity.
