Colts’ updated salary cap with Eric Fisher’s deal included

The Indianapolis Colts signed veteran left tackle Eric Fisher to a one-year deal following the 2021 NFL draft and with the details of that contract coming out, we have a clear picture of the team’s salary-cap situation.

Fisher’s one-year deal, which is worth $8.38 million, brings the Colts to roughly $12.2 million in effective salary-cap space, according to Over The Cap.

The effective salary cap accounts for the top-51 salaries on the roster. This is typically how the salary cap is viewed because if they accounted for all 90 players during the offseason, teams would be well over the cap that the league sets.

Though free agency is over and most of the major signings have already happened, the Colts will be keeping a close eye on their cap situation given the upcoming extensions that are set to be given.

Linebacker Darius Leonard could very well reset the market at his position when his new contract extension is all said and done. Along with Leonard, the Colts will be looking to lock up right tackle Braden Smith to a long deal.

While Leonard and Smith are the easy choices for extensions and will be getting expensive deals, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if running back Nyheim Hines also got an extension for roughly two or three years.

The Colts will have plenty of decisions to make but these extensions should be coming up this summer before the team arrives for training camp.
