Colts’ Tyquan Lewis poised to show versatility in Year 2

The Indianapolis Colts have harped on bringing versatility to the defensive line, which was one of the biggest reasons they drafted Tyquan Lewis during early in the 2018 draft.

Though he missed the first half of the season due to a toe injury, Lewis would return to play a major role in the defense during the second half. Part of that role included working both as a three-technique and defensive end.

Lewis is expecting to provide that same type of versatility during his second season in the league.

“I’m just displaying my versatility on the defensive line,” Lewis told Indy Star. “That means everything. I just want to help the team win. If that means I play on the inside or outside, let’s just go in and do it.”

The Colts are expecting Lewis to play more inside at the three-technique in 2019, battling with starter Denico Autry for one of the most crucial roles on the entire defense.

Lewis was a big part of the rotation along the defensive line until he suffered a knee injury during the regular-season finale against the Tennessee Titans—which forced him to miss the two playoff games.

The Colts are expected to have some major competition all along the defense, and Lewis will be among them working both on the inside and on the outside of the four-man front.
