Colts’ Trey Burton ‘not all the way back’ from calf injury

The Indianapolis Colts offense hasn’t had to do much in terms of carrying the team given the way the defense has played in the last two weeks, but tight end Trey Burton is eligible to return from the injured reserve in Week 4.

After suffering a calf injury during the final scrimmage in training camp, the Colts were forced to have Burton start the season on the injured reserve list in hopes he could return for the Week 4 road game against the Chicago Bears.

While Burton can officially return from the injured reserve list after his three-week stints ends, head coach Frank Reich told reporters Sunday that they are still monitoring his progress.

The Colts just got starter Jack Doyle back from injury while Mo Alie-Cox has been shining in an increased role in the last two weeks. He’s proving to be an impact player in the passing game and could be earning a permanently larger role in the offense.

Getting Burton back will be a nice boost to the passing game, especially with Parris Campbell on the injured reserve list for potentially the entire season.

Though, it remains to be seen if Burton’s return will be immediately when he’s eligible or a while after that to let the calf fully heal.
