Background
A product of Clemson, Cain was drafted by the Colts in the sixth round in 2018 hoping he would compete for a role in a thin wide receiver room. Unfortunately, he truly never got the chance after suffering a torn ACL in the preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
Cain has been rehabbing his way back from the surgery and is expected to be ready for training camp, even though it might be a little longer until he’s 100% back to normal.
2019 Outlook
Before his torn ACL, Cain was on the fast track to earn a solid role in the offense. The path to a significant role this year won’t be as easy. He’s coming off of the torn ACL, and he must battle with a deeper wide receiver corps—including the likes of Parris Campbell and Devin Funchess.
Cain is an athletic wide receiver that can be used in several roles. The hope is he can work both on the outside and on the inside while providing Andrew Luck with another reliable set of hands.
Bottom Line
It’s difficult to predict how Cain might do in 2019. We won’t truly know what type of role he will get until he straps the pads on and plays during the preseason. However, he should be considered one of the candidates to be in the competition for significant roles in the room once he does return.
