Colts’ training camp preview: OT Jackson Barton

We continue our look at the offensive line ahead of training camp for the Indianapolis Colts, previewing one of their selections from the 2019 NFL Draft.

Name: Jackson Barton
Position: OT
Height: 6-foot-7
Weight: 302
Age: 23
Year Drafted: 2019 (seventh round)

Background

One of the final picks for the Colts in the 2019 draft, Jackson arrives for his first training camp coming out of Utah. He played primarily left tackle during his college days but also saw some time at right tackle.

The Colts selected him with the No. 240 overall pick in April’s draft.

2019 Outlook

The Colts will be looking for offensive line depth during training camp as they already know who their starters are entering the preseason. This gives Barton an opportunity to battle for one of the depth roles on the offensive line.

His height can make it difficult for him to keep his pad level consistent, which is an area he will need to show some development in during training camp.

Barton is likely battling with Le’Raven Clark, Joe Haeg, Antonio Garcia and J’Marcus Webb for the swing tackle positions.

Bottom Line

Barton didn’t see much work with the first-team offense during the spring, which means he’s likely battling for a depth role on the offensive line. Should he fail to make the roster cut, there’s a high chance the Colts sign him to the practice squad.
