Colts training camp: Andrew Luck gets maintenance day

The Indianapolis Colts started their third practice of training camp on Saturday afternoon but among those getting a maintenance day included quarterback Andrew Luck.

With the Colts taking extreme precaution in regards to Luck’s calf strain that kept him out of the entire spring, the 29-year-old gets a scheduled day off. He, along with wide receiver T.Y. Hilton and left tackle Anthony Castonzo, are getting the day to rest.

The Colts have made it clear they are going to take it very slow to begin training camp with general manager Chris Ballard citing the high rate of soft tissue injuries happening mostly during the first week.

The Colts aren’t concerned about Luck’s status for the long-term, but they have been extremely cautious in overworking the franchise quarterback upon his return from a calf strain.

The Colts will have another practice Sunday afternoon before getting the day off on Monday.
