Colts to sign QB Brian Hoyer

The Indianapolis Colts have been searching for a viable backup to work behind new starter Jacoby Brissett, and it appears they have found one in veteran Brian Hoyer.

Following the retirement of Andrew Luck, the Colts have needed to add depth to the quarterback room. Hoyer will reportedly join the Colts on a three-year deal worth $12 million.

The news was first reported by Adam Caplan and confirmed by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

As far as veteran options go for the Colts, Hoyer is arguably the top player. General manager Chris Ballard said Sunday they would look at both short-term and long-term options behind Brissett. It appears they went with the long term.

The 33-year-old Hoyer became expendable in New England, where he worked as Tom Brady’s backup since 2017.

Hoyer originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2009 with the Patriots.
