Colts to place WR Daurice Fountain on IR

The Indianapolis Colts will place wide receiver Daurice Fountain on the injured reserve list after successfully undergoing ankle surgery to repair a dislocated and fractured ankle, head coach Frank Reich told reporters Sunday.

The second-year wide receiver suffered the gruesome injury during the final training camp practice of the year on Thursday during the joint sessions with the Cleveland Browns.

Reich told the media in a conference call Sunday that they expect Fountain to make a complete recovery.

“In addition, Daurice (Fountain) obviously had successful surgery on Friday,” Reich said. “It went very well. We will give him all the support that we can and that he needs. We expect a full, complete recovery.”

Because Fountain was placed on the injured reserve list before the rosters are cut down to 53 players, the Northern Iowa product will miss the entire 2019 season.

It’s a tough break for Fountain, who was playing himself well into the competition in the wide receiver room. With such a crowded group, Fountain was truly making some noise during the final few weeks of training camp.

After a disappointing rookie season, the former fifth-round pick will miss the 2019 season and look to make a comeback in what will be a crucial third year.
