Colts tender 3 restricted free agents

The Indianapolis Colts applied second-round tenders to restricted free agents Evan Boehm, Matthias Farley and Chester Rogers, the team announced Monday.

The Colts also announced they applied tenders to exclusive rights free agents Marcus Johnson and Luke Rhodes.

The tender for the restricted free agents is a one-year deal worth $3.095 million, which is the second level compensation.

The exclusive rights free agents get a one-year deal at league minimum and basically have no choice but to sign the tenders unless they want to sit out the 2019 season. The Colts could also rescind the tender before they sign, making them an unrestricted free agent.

Rogers has been a familiar face in the wide receiver corps since joining as an undrafted rookie in 2016. He’s a depth piece that also serves as the team’s punt returner.

Boehm provided the Colts with solid interior offensive line depth stepping in for center Ryan Kelly and right guard Mark Glowinski when they dealt with injuries.

Farley is a nice depth piece in the safety room, but his 2018 season was over after just five games when he suffered an injury that landed him on the injured reserve.

As for the exclusive rights free agents, Johnson will look to battle for a roster spot, but Frank Reich has always praised the wide receiver while Rhodes has made the transition from linebacker to long snapper look seamless since making the switch in 2017.
