Colts still monitoring WR Devin Funchess (shoulder)

The Indianapolis Colts are hoping to see the return of wide receiver Devin Funchess at some point this season but are still monitoring his progress from the broken clavicle he suffered in Week 1.

With Funchess currently on the injured reserve list, the Colts will have to make a corresponding move to open up a roster spot. However, they aren’t at that point yet as they have to monitor his status this week.

Head coach Frank Reich said in a conference call Monday that they have to wait until Funchess is fully ready to go before activating him.

“We are going to monitor him as we go. We’ve already talked about his injury a bunch, I mean we have to make sure that thing is 100 percent healed,” Reich said. “So we will monitor this week and see how it goes.”

The Colts have until Dec. 4 to activate Funchess or keep him on the injured reserve list for the remainder of the season.

The Colts desperately need playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. They just lost tight end Eric Ebron for the rest of the season due to a pair of ankle procedures. Running back Marlon Mack is out indefinitely with a hand fracture, and wide receiver Parris Campbell is also working his way back from a hand fracture.

Funchess signed a one-year deal with the Colts this offseason and caught three passes for 32 yards in the only game he’s played this season.

The Colts passing offense hasn’t eclipsed 200 yards since Week 7 and some of that has been due to a lack of consistent playmakers.

Getting Funchess back is a big move for the Colts, but it remains to be seen if that will happen anytime soon.
