Colts’ Spencer Ware says his season is not over

Despite a report that Indianapolis Colts running back Spencer Ware would be done for the season after being placed on the Reserve/PUP list, the veteran tweeted Saturday that his season is not over.

Ware, who reportedly underwent ankle surgery and is expected to be out five to six weeks, made it clear on Twitter that he can still return to the field this season.

Ware started training camp on the Active/PUP list, which meant he could have come off at any time once his injury was healed. But since he needed surgery, the Colts transferred him to the Reserve/PUP list.

It isn’t clear if Ware is in the plans for the Colts this season following the ankle surgery. An option both sides could look into is reaching an injury settlement, which would make Ware a free agent when he’s ready to return.

Ware is currently on the Reserve/PUP list and is not counting against the 90-man roster. The Colts have worked out a few running backs this week—including Mike Gillislee and Akeem Hunt. The backfield is currently four-deep with Marlon Mack, Nyheim Hines, Jordan Wilkins and Keith Ford.
