Colts’ Spencer Ware can make up to $2.05M in 2019

The Indianapolis Colts added a veteran piece to the backfield on Tuesday, announcing the signing of former Kansas City Chiefs running back Spencer Ware.

While it’s unclear what type of role Ware will have in the Colts backfield, the contract details of his one-year deal have been reported, by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Ware has a chance to make a max of $2.05 million with the Colts in his one-year deal if all of his incentives are reached. It isn’t clear yet what type of incentives the veteran will have on his deal with Indy.

The Colts didn’t necessarily have a need to add to the running back position, but they were actively searching the market for one. After deciding against grabbing one in the draft, they were able to bring in a veteran presence that could help the room develop.

Ware is likely competing for a depth role behind Marlon Mack, though the starting job won’t come without competition for the latter.

The signing should make for a fun offseason in Indy, especially once the pads come on in the fall.
