Colts sign TE Ross Travis to contract extension

The Indianapolis Colts have signed tight end Ross Travis to a one-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday.

Set to be a restricted free agent when the new league year begins in March, this move comes as no surprise given how much the Colts have expressed their interest in keeping Travis around.

Despite missing the entire 2018 season after suffering a knee injury during the final preseason game, the Colts have always expressed interest in the upside that Travis brings to the field.

He’s an athletic tight end that the Colts should be able to find success within Frank Reich’s scheme, which utilizes the position more than most teams in the NFL.

Travis will likely be fighting for a spot on the 53-man roster, but given his versatility and athletic ability, he should be a favorite to become a depth piece in the tight end room.

The Colts’ tight end room was already arguably the best in the NFL, and they just brought back another intriguing piece that could bring the unit even more success in 2019.
