Colts sign RB Spencer Ware

The Indianapolis Colts signed free-agent running back Spencer Ware, the team announced Tuesday morning.

The Colts brought in Ware on a visit ahead of the draft and after deciding against selecting one in the 2019 NFL Draft, they bring in some veteran presence to the young backfield.

Ware, 27, was a sixth-round pick with the Seattle Seahawks during the 2013 NFL Draft. He only appeared in two games his rookie season before being released in 2014.

After signing a futures contract with the Chiefs at the end of the 2014 season, Ware spent the first half of the 2015 campaign on the practice squad before being brought up to the active roster.

Ware has always been an efficient running back while also being able to make an impact as a pass catcher. His role with the Colts is unclear.

Ware joins a running back room that currently includes Marlon Mack, Nyheim Hines, Jordan Wilkins and Jonathan Williams.

In corresponding moves, the Colts also announced they have waived safety Isaiah Johnson and defensive tackle DeShawn Williams while releasing wide receiver James Wright.
