Colts sign QB Chad Kelly

The Indianapolis Colts signed quarterback Chad Kelly and waived defensive tackle Jordan Thompson, the team announced Monday.

There was interest from the Colts’ side in signing Kelly, who was a seventh-round pick with the Denver Broncos in 2017. The Colts brought Kelly in for a workout during the team’s rookie minicamp but didn’t sign him to a contract then.

Kelly had a chance to grab the starting role during the 2018 season for the Broncos, but he was released after being arrested and charged with first-degree criminal trespassing.

The Ole Miss product completed 62.5% of his passes for 2,758 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions in nine games during his senior season in 2016.

Kelly will be entering a quarterback room that currently consists of Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett and Phillip Walker.
