Colts sign LT Anthony Castonzo to 2-year extension

The Indianapolis Colts are signing left tackle Anthony Castonzo to a two-year extension, the team announced Sunday.

It was expected that Castonzo would be returning for at least one more season when general manager Chris Ballard made it known at the NFL combine a few weeks ago. Now, some of the details are being released.

It seems to be a two-year deal for Castonzo worth $33 million, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The former first-round pick has been a consistent and productive tackle for the Colts while protecting the blindside. He is coming off of what most are considering was his best season in 2019.

Though the Colts have needs elsewhere—quarterback, wide receiver, defensive tackle—re-signing Castonzo to an extension was one of the top priorities for Indy this offseason.

Even with Castonzo being under contract for two more years, the Colts are likely to begin actively searching for his eventual successor on the blindside.

With the new CBA voted and approved, the Colts got more information on how to construct the contract for the veteran Castonzo. Before the legal tampering period opens on Monday afternoon, the Colts were able to get a new deal done and lock up their left tackle position for the next two seasons.
