Colts sign DL Margus Hunt to contract extension

The Indianapolis Colts have signed defensive lineman Margus Hunt to a contract extension, the team announced Tuesday.

After two solid years providing depth all along the defensive line, the Colts are bringing back the veteran Hunt after he had a career season in the new 4-3 alignment.

The 31-year-old was a solid fit in the Colts’ attacking scheme during the 2018 season. He was a versatile depth piece all along the defensive line working both on the edge and on the interior providing pressure against the pass and stout run defense.

The Estonian played 15 games (all starts) while recording 30 tackles (22 solo), 13 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks, all of which were career highs for the veteran.

Hunt should continue to provide the Colts will solid depth on a young defensive line. General manager Chris Ballard has made it known he has no issue with rewarding their own with an extension if they continue to produce while being a fit in the locker room.

The Colts will still likely add to the pass rush this offseason, but Hunt coming back gives them some stable veteran depth all across the defensive front.
