Colts showing ‘the most interest’ in DE Brian Burns

The Indianapolis Colts are hoping to land a difference-maker with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and while Florida State’s Brian Burns isn’t expected to fall that far, the team is doing their share of research.

In need of an edge rusher to improve the pass rush, the Colts have been showing a lot of interest in Burns. So much so that Burns says they’ve been the most active team with the pre-draft process.

“Probably the Colts, they’ve shown the most interest so far,” Burns told Chris Simms on the latter’s podcast. “I had a dinner with them before. I also met them at the combine. Met with them, got on the board a little bit.”

Burns is one of the top pass rushers in the draft and would be a great fit in the Colts’ attacking front. He’s a bendy edge rusher that uses a combination of speed, flexibility and a plethora of pass rush moves to win off the snap.

The Florida State product does have some concerns when it comes to playing with strength and setting the edge against the run, which he’s shown to do without consistency.

Even with that, Burns would be a great fit for the Colts at No. 26 as a piece the defense can build around. They would be able to use his speed, flexibility and pass rush plan off the edge to apply pressure on opposing quarterbacks at a much higher rate.

There’s a high chance Burns won’t be there at No. 26, but the Colts seem to be showing a lot of interest in case he is.
