Colts set to begin mandatory minicamp

The Indianapolis Colts have officially entered the final part of the offseason training program as mandatory veteran minicamp begins Tuesday, marking the final time the team will be on the field before breaking for summer.

Minicamp—which runs Tuesday through Thursday—is simply an extension of OTAs, which the Colts wrapped up last week. There is still no contact between players or full pads being worn this week.

While it is difficult to guage performances and position battles without having pads or contact in practice, there will be several Colts looking to make a lasting impression on the coaching staff.

Since this will be the final time the team will be on the field together before training camp, it represents a chance for players to gain some momentum before breaking for summer and returning to Indy at the end of July.

The biggest storyline to watch this week will be whether franchise quarterback Andrew Luck returns from the calf strain that kept him out of the entirety of OTAs.

The Colts aren’t concerned with the injury, and head coach Frank Reich isn’t even concerned if Luck doesn’t take any team reps in minicamp. As long as the injury doesn’t spill over into training camp, the Colts don’t appear to be worried.

The offseason continues to fly by with the start of minicamp marking another step closer to playing actual games on Sundays.
