Colts select WR Michael Strachan: How he fits with Indy

The Indianapolis Colts started off the first pick of the seventh round, one they gained in a trade with the New Orleans Saints. With that selection, the Colts took wide receiver Michael Strachan from Charleston.

Strachan dominated at the Division II level and offers another big, raw athlete to the offense that will make quarterback Carson Wentz even happier.

Strachan, a towering 6’5″ 226 lbs. target comes to Indianapolis after being a mismatch nightmare for small school defenses. He ran an impressive 4.46 in the 40-yard dash time. In 29 career games played at Charleston (WV) Strachan recorded 127 catches for 2,332 yards and 27 touchdown catches.

Strachan is the latest addition to a Colts wideout room with a focus on large outside receivers as of late, joining a couple of talented second-year players in Michael Pittman Jr. and Dezmon Patmon.

While Strachan likely comes in as a sort of raw project player at the position, his athletic ability and testing make one think he’ll be a worthwhile investment to develop into a depth role with the offense later in his career.

If the position shakes out with too many other options above him, Strachan may benefit the most from spending time on the practice squad and growing his game.

Rookie Projection: Practice squad player with a chance for a depth role
