Colts select LB E.J. Speed with No. 164 pick in 2019 NFL Draft

The Indianapolis Colts selected former Tarleton State linebacker E.J. Speed with the No. 164 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

After the Colts traded up in the fourth round to grab safety Khari Willis, they then doubled down by using their first fifth-round pick on defensive back Marvell Tell. Indy ends their fifth round of the draft by taking Speed.

The Colts have truly emphasized adding depth to the defensive side of the ball, and this one comes in the form of a player with some character concerns. Speed was arrested in Sept. 2018 on two counts of organized criminal activity. The case was dismissed by a grand jury in April.

Speed as some size and lives up to his last name as a runner. He reportedly recorded a 4.6 in the 40-yard dash at his pro day. He’s also listed at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds.

The Colts are scheduled to have two more selections in the draft: One each in the sixth round (No. 199) and seventh round (No. 240).
