Colts select LB Ben Banogu with No. 49 pick in 2019 NFL Draft

The Indianapolis Colts selected former TCU edge rusher Ben Banogu with the No. 49 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Colts started their day off Friday with the selection of cornerback Rock Ya-Sin at No. 34. They followed that up by trading back three spots with the Cleveland Browns to take Banogu with their second pick of the second round.

Needing to address the pass rush, the Colts are adding an explosive and athletic edge rusher. Indy showed plenty of interest in Banogu during the pre-draft process and are hoping he can work into the rotation early.

Banogu offers some versatility working from the edge as he can rush the passer or drop in coverage. In 2018 at TCU, Banogu recorded 18.0 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. He was Draft Wire’s 13th-ranked edge rusher and 113th overall prospect in the class.

Banogu will be joining a pass rushing corps that currently includes Jabaal Sheard, Justin Houston, Kemoko Turay, Tyquan Lewis and Al-Quadin Muhammad.

The Colts will have two more picks scheduled on Friday at No. 59 in the second round and No. 89 overall in the third round.
