Colts select CB Rock Ya-Sin with No. 34 pick in 2019 NFL Draft

The Indianapolis Colts selected former Temple cornerback Rock Ya-Sin with the No. 34 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

After trading back out of the first round on Thursday night, there was a strong possibility that the Colts were going to do the same with this pick, but it seems Indy valued Ya-Sin more than moving back and acquiring more selections.

Ya-Sin (6’0, 192) offers great size to work the boundary to go along with 32-inch arms, and projects to be a solid zone cornerback with high upside to be an impact starter.

The Colts had a need to add to the cornerback position despite bringing back their starting trio for the 2019 season. The depth behind them is thin, but Ya-Sin can wind up turning into a starter on the boundary.

In 12 games at Temple during the 2018 season, Ya-Sin recorded 47 tackles (36 solo), 2.0 tackles for loss, two interceptions and 12 passes defended. He was the No. 5 ranked cornerback in the class and the No. 44 overall ranked prospect according to Draft Wire.

Ya-Sin now joins a cornerback room that includes the likes of Pierre Desir, Quincy Wilson, Kenny Moore and Jalen Collins.

The Colts are scheduled to have three more remaining picks on Friday: two in the second round (Nos. 46 and 59) and one in the third round (No. 89). The full list of remaining picks has the Colts with eight more selections.
