Colts’ salary cap update entering free agency

The Indianapolis Colts have already made a few moves this offseason before the beginning of the new league year, which has impacted their salary cap space figure entering free agency.

After re-signing right guard Mark Glowinski, kicker Adam Vinatieri and defensive lineman Margus Hunt, the Colts still have the most salary cap space in the NFL by a good margin.

According to the NFLPA Public Salary Cap report, the Colts are currently sitting with $102,067,086 ahead of free agency, barring any changes whether they be cuts or more re-signings. The Jets are second with $92,907,783.

With the most salary cap space in the NFL, the Colts have the opportunity to add some serious talent to an ascending roster. With the needs coming on the defensive side of the ball and at wide receiver, there are some options the Colts can consider.

How active they will be is the question, though. General manager Chris Ballard isn’t one to spend heavily in free agency, especially given the fact that they are trying to build a certain culture in the locker room, which can sometimes be difficult when massive contracts are floating around.

With needs at pass rusher, safety and wide receiver, it will be interesting to see how active the Colts are in free agency. It will also be interesting to see if they prioritize a certain position over another depending on the depth of each group.

Regardless, the Colts are set to enter free agency with the most salary cap space in the NFL, which puts them in a prime position to stockpile talent ahead of the draft.
