Colts’ salary cap update after first wave of free agency

The Indianapolis Colts have been quiet during the early parts of free agency, which has included signing a handful of their own while bringing in wide receiver Devin Funchess.

Starting out the season with the most salary cap space in the NFL with over $100 million, the Colts now rest between the $75 to $77 million mark.

Spotrac has the Colts listed having $74.8 million left in salary cap space while Over The Cap has them listed with just over $77 million left to work with in free agency.

The Colts passed on many of the big names in free agency after the new league year began. Instead of overpaying for players on the market, which happens often, general manager Chris Ballard is staying patient while waiting for the second tier of free agents.

While it shouldn’t be expected that the Colts will be extremely active following the first wave of free agency, they should be ramping up their interest with a few names available on the market.

The Colts signed the aforementioned Funchess to a one-year deal worth up to $13 million, and they just re-signed cornerback Pierre Desir to a front-loaded three-year deal worth up to $25 million.

It will be interesting to see how active the Colts will be following the first wave of free agency, but they still have plenty of room left in salary cap space to make some moves.
