Colts’ Rock Ya-Sin was strong in limiting big plays

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Rock Ya-Sin has yet to sign his rookie contract, but that doesn’t keep the excitement from fans about his potential impact on the defense.

As the Colts’ first pick in the 2019 draft at No. 34 overall, Ya-Sin is a player the front office fell in love with while he went through the 2018 season at Temple working as one of their starting cornerbacks.

One of the reasons the Colts liked Ya-Sin’s game was his ability to limit big plays. He allowed the second-fewest yards-per-reception in 2018 among all cornerbacks taken in the draft, per Pro Football Focus.

The Colts secondary is one that is expected to feature plenty of competition in the coming months. Ya-Sin might need a little more development, but the Colts view him as a starter and one that is likely to compete with Pierre Desir and Quincy Wilson for a boundary position.

It also remains to be seen what type of coverage the Colts will be asking Ya-Sin to be a part of. They featured heavy zone coverage in 2018 but could be looking to use more man coverage in the future.

The Colts have some high expectations for Ya-Sin if he reaches his potential, and limiting big plays is one of the reasons they believe he can succeed in their scheme.
