Colts re-sign S Clayton Geathers

The Indianapolis Colts officially re-signed safety Clayton Geathers to a one-year deal, the team announced Wednesday.

It was reported earlier Wednesday that the Colts and Geathers were finalizing a contract agreement. Following his mini free agent tour that included trips to Dallas and Tampa Bay, the 26-year-old will be returning for another season in Indy.

Geathers is coming off of his best season yet of his four-year career, which included playing 12 games and recording 89 tackles (61 solo). But the injury bug continued to be a factor in keeping him from reaching his potential.

The Colts are still thin at the safety position even with the Geathers signing, but this will at least give them some veteran depth and leadership with a hard-hitting safety that works perfectly alongside Malik Hooker when healthy.

Re-signing Geathers adds another respected leader to the locker room while also providing a young defense with some depth. If he can prove to stay healthy, the Colts will have the safety tandem they feel works perfectly in the defensive backfield.
