Colts ranked 20th in USA TODAY pre-Week 1 power rankings

Following the abrupt retirement of quarterback Andrew Luck, the Indianapolis Colts will be viewed mostly as underdogs for the majority of the 2019 season.

In USA TODAY’s power rankings done by Nate Davis ahead of Week 1 of the regular season, the Colts fell 13 spots from No. 7 to No. 20 now with Jacoby Brissett under center replacing Luck.

“They’re far better than 2017 team that went 4-11 with QB Jacoby Brissett at helm. But can they get past Andrew Luck’s emotional exit?” wrote Davis.

There is no denying the outlook for the Colts is murky without Luck under center. The Colts, though, have plenty of confidence in Brissett leading the way—enough to give him a two-year deal worth $30 million.

The Colts have a tough schedule ahead of them, especially with their road matchups. But Chris Ballard has done a strong job of constructing a competitive roster around Brissett.

The Colts will be taking on the role of the underdog again after Luck’s retirement, and that shows in the Week 1 power rankings.
