Colts’ Quenton Nelson named first-team All-Pro

Indianapolis Colts left guard Quenton Nelson was named a first-team All-Pro for the 2019 season, the Associated Press announced Friday.

This is the second consecutive season in which Nelson has been named a first-team All-Pro. Following another elite season manning the interior for the Colts, this comes as no surprise for the former No. 6 overall pick.

Nelson led the way with 44 votes among all left guards. That was the highest number of votes among all offensive linemen.

Nelson has been nothing short of a stalwart for the Colts at left guard ever since he was taken in the first round of the draft in 2018. His improvements in pass protection and his ability to move defenders in the run game have made an incredible impact for the Colts.

Though the entire line deserves credit, Nelson is one of the biggest reasons the Colts were a top-seven rushing unit this season. Whether he’s engaging a defender head-up or pulling to create some space for the backfield, Nelson’s work in the run game is truly spectacular.

Not only did Nelson provide the Colts with elite production, but he also gave them reliability every week. Had he not suffered a concussion during the second half of the Week 16 game against the Panthers, Nelson would have been among the rest of the offensive line that played every snap this season.

In addition to Nelson being named a first-team All-Pro, linebacker Darius Leonard was voted to the second team despite missing three games. Ryan Kelly received two votes as a first-team All-Pro center.
