Colts’ Quenton Nelson in concussion protocol

Indianapolis Colts left guard Quenton Nelson had to leave Sunday’s 38-6 win over the Carolina Panthers in the second half after sustaining a concussion.

Nelson didn’t come out for the second half of the game and was replaced by Joe Haeg. As of Monday, the two-time Pro Bowler was still in the league’s concussion protocol, head coach Frank Reich told reporters in a conference call.

Nelson has been everything the Colts could have hoped for when drafting him with the No. 6 overall pick in 2018. He’s been reliable and healthy while also giving the Colts elite production from the interior in both pass protection and run blocking.

The season is over for the Colts after this week. There will be no need to rush Nelson back from a concussion. Regardless, he has to get through the league’s concussion protocol, which is a different timetable for every player.

With just one game remaining, Nelson will be in the concussion protocol this week. His status should be monitored in the injury reports throughout the week.
