Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will miss up to six weeks with a lacerated kidney and a partial tear of an abdominal muscle.
Luck sustained the injury during Sunday’s 27-24 win over the Denver Broncos, but te injuries should not require surgery and full recovery from both is expected within two to six weeks.
Colts coach Chuck Pagano said in a statement: “The injuries happened at the end of an early fourth-quarter scramble when Andrew was doing everything he could to get us the win. Andrew was sore after the game and was feeling a little worse Monday afternoon so we sent him to get tests.
“It’s way too early to guess how long Andrew will be out,” Pagano continued. “We’re going to keep listening to the doctors and evaluating his progress on a week by week basis. We’ve got all the confidence in the world in Matt Hasselbeck and we’re not going to put Andrew back out there until he’s healed and ready to go.”
The Colts got their most significant win last weekend to move to 4-5 on the season. They have a rest this week, and play the Falcons at the Georgia Dome on November 22.
Matt Hasselbeck won both of his starts earlier in the season while Luck battled a shoulder injury.
