The Indianapolis Colts officially start training camp this week—Thursday to be exact—and with comes the new excitement of another season.
For the Colts, there is a very positive outlook for the 2019 season. They are constantly being projected as one of the top teams in the AFC, which includes predictions of winning the division.
That continued this week as USA TODAY projected the Colts finishing with a 10-6 record while claiming the AFC South title—despite having the same record as the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Indianapolis Colts (10-6): They won’t catch the league by surprise this year, and it doesn’t help having to navigate a division that projects as the conference’s most competitive from top to bottom. But a beast is burgeoning in Indy, thanks largely to a defense and O-line that don’t get sufficient renown. And no questions about QB Andrew Luck anymore.
Here’s a look at how the standings shook out in the AFC South according to USA TODAY’s prediction:
- Indianapolis Colts (10-6)
- Jacksonville Jaguars (10-6)
- Houston Texans (9-7)
- Tennessee Titans (6-10)
The Colts have ranged from a team predicted to earn a first-round bye in the playoffs to barely squeaking in with a lower seed. Even in their worst predictions, though, the Colts are a playoff team.
The entire division should be a competitive one. Any one of the teams could realistically stake a claim for the top spot or a wild-card spot when the 2019 season is all said and done.
There has been plenty of hype surrounding the Colts this offseason and while that doesn’t guarantee wins, it’s certainly a feeling that has been missing for quite some time now.
