Colts place WR T.Y. Hilton on NFI list

The Indianapolis Colts placed wide receiver T.Y. Hilton on the active/Non-Football Injury (NFI) list, the team announced Sunday.

It appears Hilton suffered a hamstring injury during one of his own workouts this offseason. Because he was away from the team when it happened, he goes on the NFI list. Once he is able to return, he can be taken off the list immediately. Even on the list, Hilton still counts toward the 90-man roster.

Hilton has dealt with his share of injuries over the last few seasons. He has played through most of it, but this has been a trend since 2018. He played through two ankle sprains during the second half of 2018 and dealt with a groin injury and a serious calf injury in 2019 en route to playing in just 10 games.

This is something to monitor over the next month. Soft tissue injuries are dangerous early in the preseason. There have been countless cases showing players struggling to return to form if they return from the injury too soon.

The Colts must make sure Hilton is 100% ready to return before giving him the okay. The passing offense depends on Hilton’s explosive play, which he still has in spades when on the field.

The Colts are entering the ramp-up period of training camp, but they will do so without Hilton for the time being.
