Colts’ pass rush a no-show again in Week 4 loss to Raiders

Throughout the 31-24 loss against the Oakland Raiders (2-2) on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium, the Indianapolis Colts (2-2) showed there are still several concerns—including an inconsistent pass rush.

While linebacker Anthony Walker was technically awarded a sack on Derek Carr, the pass rush was a no-show again from the defensive line. There was some promise that the unit was becoming consistently productive through the first two weeks, but the latter two games have shown there are still major inconsistencies.

Between not getting off of blocks and simply being dominated at the point of attack, the Colts’ pass rush has become a major concern along a unit that hasn’t given much to be excited about.

The Colts didn’t record a sack in the Week 3 win against the Falcons and while it didn’t hurt them then, it came back to bite them on Sunday against the Raiders. There were a few good rushes from Denico Autry and Justin Houston, but the unit—for the most part—was stifled throughout the game.

Now, it should be noted that the Raiders used a quick passing game to get into a rhythm, but there was still no consistency.

The Colts defense hasn’t shown it can be one of the top-half units in the league. That was the expectation coming into the 2019 season, but a lack of consistent pass rush has been alarming for two weeks in a row.

They now must take on the best offense in the NFL in the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5 where a non-existent pass rush will seal the game’s outcome after the first quarter.
